Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back continues the adventures of Crash as he is recruited by the villainous Doctor Neo Cortex to recover powerful crystals scattered across dangerous locations. Unsure whether Cortex can be trusted, Crash travels through jungles, icy caves, laboratories, and outer space while uncovering another plan that threatens the world and challenges his role as an unlikely hero once again.
The gameplay builds upon the original with tighter controls, larger levels, hidden paths, and new movement abilities including sliding, body slams, and enhanced jumping mechanics. Players collect crystals, gems, and bonus rewards while avoiding traps, enemies, and environmental hazards throughout a wide range of colourful stages. Vehicle sections and chase sequences add variety to the adventure, while improved visuals and level design helped establish the game as one of the defining platformers on the original PlayStation console.
